The NGV’s annual report for 1885 lists the three pieces listed above among the group of ceramics bought on the advice of Frederick Leighton. Only the vase reproduced here appears to be extant in the collection.

The pottery was founded by Sir Edmund Harry Elton, who inherited the title of 8th Elton Baronet in 1883, together with the family seat at Clevedon, Somerset, where the pottery was located; it closed with his death in 1920.
