The 1894 catalogue lists this work as hanging in the McArthur Gallery, and provides some information on the subject, described as a spectacular section of the Yorkshire coastline.

Information on the artist is scanty, although he seems to have specialized in subjects like this. Coastal Cliffs, a similarly-sized painting sold at auction in 2006 for over US $3,000.
