Jeaurat, Edme (1668-1738), after Le Brun, Charles (1619-90)
Entrevue de Louis XIV Roy de France et de Philippe IV Roy d’Espagne [Interview of Louis XIV of France & Phillip IV of Spain] 1728
Gift of George Collins Levey
National Gallery of Victoria (p.183.175-1)

= Levey gift,

This print, from a set reproducing a famous series of tapestries dating from 1670, depicts the diplomatic negotiations preceding Louis XIV’s marriage to the Spanish Infanta Maria Theresa (1638-83) in June 1660; see also Jeaurat after Le Brun Marriage of Louis XIV & Maria Theresa 1731 {1879} NGV [PR].

These events marked the end of years of hostility between France and Spain. Jeaurat was the son-in-law of Le Clerc, who had engraved scenes from the same tapestry series some 50 years earlier.

Not listed in NGV 1894 or 1905

See (not reproduced; as by an unknown engraver). For another impression, see (not reproduced)

The information about Jeuerat and Leclerc comes from documentation and reproductions of both prints, previously available in the 2005 Princeton University catalogue Versailles on Paper (2005), apparently no longer available on the Princeton website (as at July 2020)
