John Cashel Hoey (1828-92), an Irish journalist and editor, was appointed to the board of advice for the Victorian Agent-General in 1872 by Premier Gavin Duffy (for whom, see * Summers (Charles) Sir Charles Gavan Duffy {1877} Loc? [SC]). The 1905 NGV catalogue identifies Hoey as the “secretary to the Agent-General for Victoria, 1879-1892.”

The print bought in 1892 would appear to correspond to the impression held in the SLV, although both NGV 1894 and 1905 list it as a lithograph.
