Hogarth’s prolific output included original engravings as well as authorized reproductions of his paintings by himself and others; pirated copies also circulated.
The continuing popularity of his moral and satirical subjects after his death is reflected by the two volumes purchased for the MPL in 1857 (as listed above).
A number of prints by and after Hogarth, acquired after 1904, are now held by the NGV.
