Wilson Works (etchings by Thomas Hastings) 1825 {1858} SLV [IB]
Wilson [manner of] Landscape with Italian buildings {1904} NGV [PA]

A noted 18th-century landscape painter, Wilson worked in Italy in the 1750s, and was a foundation member of the RA (1768).

The painting acquired from Felton’s estate in 1904, listed above, was selected as an autograph picture but later demoted to a work in his style. However, the NGV later acquired two significant accepted paintings by him: a portrait of Captain Michael Everitt, R.N. (c.1747-8; Studley Miller Bequest, 1960), and Lyn Peris and Dolbadern Castle (c.1762-4; Felton Bequest, 1948).

The 1825 volume of etchings by Hastings, an early acquisition for the Melbourne Public Library, contains 40 etchings after privately-owned canvases by Wilson.
