Rousselet was a prolific engraver, especially of religious subjects, basec on Le Brun and others. Levey’s 1879 donation to the NGV included no fewer than 15 individual engravings by him (as listed above), including two sets of 4, all reproducing paintings from Louis XIV’s Tableaux du roi (for further details and references, see Levey gift, cat.1-38).

See Bénézit 12, p.35 and AKL 99 (2018), pp.534-35 (entry by Véronique Meyer, citing her own L’oeuvre gravé de Gilles Rousselet, Paris, 2004)

The Art Gallery of New South Wales also holds an impression of Rousselet’s engraving after Guido Reni’s David holding the head of Goliath (acquired in 1985; not part of the Cabinet du roi or Levey’s 1879 gift to Melbourne)
